Chinese humanoid robot maker Unitree powers up for stellar Shanghai debut
The IPO was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed as investors bet on Unitree’s profitability and scarcity in mainland China’s first humanoid-robot listing.
On Friday, Unitree priced its Shanghai STAR Market IPO at 150.8 yuan per share, raising 6.1 billion yuan and valuing the company at 61 billion yuan, with retail subscriptions exceeding 8,000 times available shares.
Unprecedented retail demand produced an historically low lot-winning rate of 0.018%, while crypto-derivative contracts on Hyperliquid pointed to a potential four-fold price jump on the maiden day.
While Unitree's revenue quadrupled last year, first-quarter adjusted profit fell more than 52% as research and marketing spending rose, yet analysts note the firm arrives with rare scale among humanoid competitors.
The U.S. ban on foreign-made humanoid robots last month creates complications for Unitree, which derives 13% of its revenue from the U.S. market and faces potential loss of Western hardware access.
Equity analyst Dominik Pross at VP Bank warns advanced humanoid robots face technical constraints, stating, "Robots have to be specifically trained for each and every task entrusted to them, even the simplest." Battery life remains limited.
