Chinese beauty products prove resilient amid US-China trade war
Low prices and strong demand are helping Chinese wig, lash and nail makers keep U.S. sales growing despite tariff costs, producers said.
Sales of Chinese-made beauty accessories are surging across the United States, with hair product exports rising 12.4% year-over-year to $1.3 billion in the first half of 2026.
Joe Wu, an exporter in Xuchang known as China's wig capital, expects his sales to grow 40% this year driven heavily by U.S. buyers drawn through TikTok and Instagram.
Zhang Da, owner of the Donghai Yizhigu Nail Art factory in Donghai county, says exports climbed to 70% of total revenue this year from 20% late in 2025.
Dan Wang, the China director of Eurasia Group, notes Beijing occupies "a unique historical position" using scale to dominate global markets in both advanced and lower value-added goods.
While friction over high-profile items like cars forms the backdrop to this week's presidential summit, shipments are on track to beat 2025's full-year figure of $2.3 billion.
