- Wang told Rubio the two nations "should prepare well for the next stage of high-level interactions in the spirit of equality, respect and reciprocity," according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
- The diplomats also discussed the situation in the Middle East, a day after Wang hosted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Beijing to address the interim peace deal.
- Wang encouraged the United States and Iran to remain rational, exercise restraint, and "engage in substantive consultations," while calling for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
