The number of reported child welfare risks in Germany has reached a new peak. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the youth offices reported almost 73,000 cases last year. Thus, the number of persons affected increased by almost one third within five years.
Within five years, the number of cases of child well-being increased by almost a third. In 2024, around 72,800 children and adolescents were affected by neglect, mental, physical or sexual violence.
Psychic, physical or sexual violence: Last year, the German Youth Offices reported more than 72,000 child welfare risks. According to the Federal Statistical Office, this increases the number to a new peak. About one in two children is younger than nine years.
