Evacuation alerts lifted in Peachland amid Bald Range wildfire in Summerland
Emergency officials lifted alerts after determining wildfire threats had subsided, though crews continue mop-up operations and over 230 homes remain damaged on nearby Okanagan Indian Band land.
Evacuation alerts in Peachland and Electoral Area West were lifted on August 24 due to the Bald Range wildfire, as announced by the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre.
The Bald Range wildfire remains out of control, but the BC Wildfire Service has determined that the threat to these communities has passed.
Firefighters will continue mop-up operations along the fire's flanks where there is low fire behavior, focusing on dousing remaining heat near the fire's edges.
The Okanagan region remains extremely dry; residents are advised to report wildfire smoke by calling *5555 or 1-800-663-5555 and to call 911 if life is threatened.
