Central African Republic shuts down collapsed gold mining site that killed more than 100
The Central African Republic government closed the Zamboye gold mining site after a collapse killed over 100 people, citing non-compliance with mining standards and administrative directives.
Minister Ruffin Benam Beltoungou announced the closure of the mine located in the western part of the country.
The closure occurred amid ongoing investigations into breaches of mining standards and administrative orders.
Although the Zamboye site was officially closed, illegal miners continued working there before the disaster, according to reports.
