CDC warns additional measles cases in US are expected amid upcoming travel season
Taiwan raised Japan to Level 1 watch after confirming 299 measles cases there this year and identifying 274 contacts to monitor.
On Tuesday, Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control confirmed the country's first measles case imported from Japan in seven years, raising its travel advisory for Japan to Level 1 "Watch."
The patient, a Taiwanese man in his 30s, visited Nagoya earlier this month while unvaccinated and developed fever and cough after returning home on April 16.
Japan reported 299 measles cases as of April 15 this year, with 56 new infections last week; Taiwanese authorities identified 274 contacts for monitoring until May 12.
CDC Director-General Lo Yi-chun advised adults born in or after 1966 to consult clinics for measles-mumps-rubella vaccinations two to four weeks before traveling to affected areas.
Taiwan has recorded nine measles cases this year, including two domestic and seven imported; health officials urge travelers to monitor symptoms for three weeks after returning home.
