John Gotti's Grandson Carmine Agnello Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison for COVID Fraud
He pleaded guilty to wire fraud after taking at least three Small Business Administration loans and using $420,000 for cryptocurrency, prosecutors said.
- On Monday, U.S. District Judge Nusrat Choudhury sentenced Carmine Agnello, grandson of late Gambino crime family boss John Gotti, to 15 months in prison for COVID-19 relief fraud.
- Agnello obtained $1.1 million through the Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loan program for Crown Auto Parts & Recycling LLC while the company was closed, prosecutors said.
- Prosecutors noted Agnello diverted funds for personal use, including a $420,000 cryptocurrency investment, while his lawyer's claim that he sought to donate a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti, to avoid prison was rejected.
- Choudhury ordered Agnello to pay $1,268,302 in restitution and perform 100 hours of community service while undergoing mental health treatment for gambling addiction over two years of supervised release.
- Agnello must report to prison on July 20 to begin his sentence. His uncle, John "Junior" Gotti, said "Basically, I'm heartbroken," noting the family has had 15 members imprisoned.
