It has emerged that the captain of the ferry that capsized and sank while traveling from Girne to Taşucu had taken a 10-year break from the profession after his license expired, and later obtained his captain's certificate from Honduras.
In the investigation into the ferry accident in Girne, the statement of the second captain has emerged. The second captain stated that stormy weather conditions prevailed in Mersin on the day of the incident, and that the decision regarding the voyage was made on the initiative of the first captain.
