- Reported March 18, 2026: two Desgagnés cargo ships are stuck in the Persian Gulf and cannot transit the Strait of Hormuz, according to The Canadian Press.
- The conflict began on Feb. 28 when Iran was attacked by the U.S. and Israel, leading to Iranian strikes and reports of mines that have limited strait traffic since early March.
- Owned by Quebec-based Desgagnés, the two vessels carrying general cargo were in the Gulf before fighting began, Nunatsiaq News first reported.
- Because the crew are foreign nationals, the ships are registered to Barbados and will remain off the strait, with Desgagnés saying it will not risk passage until it is safe.
- Regional attack and passage numbers show a mixed pattern, with nearly 20 ships attacked and The Associated Press reports nearly 90 ships allowed passage, mostly Iranian.
