CF-18 Fighter Jets to Roar over Vancouver Island During Week-Long Military Training Exercise
Most training will be offshore and include low-level flying as pilots prepare for airspace defense and NORAD missions, the RCAF said.
Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft from 4 Wing Cold Lake began training on Vancouver Island on June 15, 2026, operating from 19 Wing Comox through June 22.
Routine training exercises are essential to ensure pilots remain prepared for critical missions, including defending Canadian airspace and supporting NORAD commitments.
Residents from Tofino in the west to San Josef Bay in the north may see or hear the aircraft, as most of the training will occur offshore and include low-level flying.
The CF-18 Hornet is a high-performance aircraft designed for speed and agility, which can be louder than commercial planes during takeoff or low-level flying, though activities are controlled to minimize disruption.
A pair of Canadian CF-18 fighter jets from Cold Lake, Alberta will perform a demonstration during the Abbotsford Airshow in Abbotsford this August.
