Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk joins NASA's SpaceX mission
Kutryk will spend six months aboard the station conducting Canadian and international science experiments and maintenance work on his first spaceflight.
Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, announced that Colonel Joshua Kutryk has been assigned to NASA's SpaceX Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station, representing Canada.
Born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., Kutryk served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter pilot and has trained in Houston with NASA since being recruited by the Canadian Space Agency in 2017.
Alongside NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov, Kutryk will embark on his first space mission for a six-month duration beginning mid-September 2026.
Kutryk said space is driven by "curiosity, adventure, innovation, and science — but above all, collaboration." He will conduct health-related research and station maintenance during the mission.
The mission uses the Commercial Crew Program and SpaceX following Starliner delays, while access to the orbiting laboratory enables Canadian scientists to advance research into osteoporosis, cardiovascular disorders, and Type 2 diabetes.
