Foreign Influence Commissioner Expects Registration to Increase as Awareness Grows
Commissioner Anton Boegman told a House of Commons committee that it is too early to assess compliance with Canada’s new foreign-influence registration rules.
Boegman said his office has focused on contacting people and organizations that may need to register their activities.
The law requires people working with a foreign principal to influence Canadian political or government processes to register within 14 days.
Although only two registrations appeared online, Boegman said his office received about 30 submissions over the weekend.
