Mexican musician, family members slain in gruesome shooting at upscale penthouse
Authorities say one suspect was an associate of Jonathan Melendez, who may have used that relationship to enter the apartment.
On Tuesday, Mexican musician Jonathan Melendez, his pregnant wife Ana Paola, their 3-year-old daughter, a domestic worker, and the family dog were shot dead at their penthouse near Mexico City.
Neighbors reported hearing shouts and gunshots shortly before midnight Tuesday, and authorities found the couple's 6-year-old son unharmed at the scene on Wednesday.
The victims were bound with duct tape before being shot; the 3-year-old girl was shot in the head at close range, while two other victims were also shot in the head.
Investigators arrested two suspects, including an associate of Melendez who may have used his relationship with the musician to gain access to the apartment.
Melendez was a composer and keyboardist for the Mexican indie rock band Camilo Septimo, which was scheduled to perform in Ciudad Juarez later this month.
