Tanzania: Afcon 2027 Preps - Motsepe Says No Plan B for Host
Motsepe said CAF will help the three hosts finish stadiums and infrastructure as the 24-team tournament stays on track.
- On Thursday, Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe dismissed reports that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations could be moved, insisting the tournament will proceed as planned in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
- The three nations, forming the PAMOJA 2027 hosting partnership, were awarded hosting rights in September 2023; a high-level CAF delegation recently completed an eight-day inspection of stadiums, training grounds, and infrastructure.
- While praising work at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Motsepe emphasized that all hosts must accelerate efforts to meet critical deadlines during the remaining nine months before the tournament.
- CAF continues monitoring the 24-team continental championship, coordinating infrastructure, transport, security, and medical services as officials provide direct assistance to ensure the three countries meet operational requirements.
- Scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027, the tournament will be the first AFCON finals jointly hosted by three countries, marking a historic milestone for East African football.
