Congress Names Candidates for Bypolls to Rejinagar, Nandigram in West Bengal
Mallikarjun Kharge approved the nominations as polling is set for Oct. 6 and counting for Oct. 9, the party said.
On Friday, the Congress named Mohammed Abdullahil Kafi and Milan Pradhan as candidates for the Rejinagar and Nandigram assembly by-elections in West Bengal.
The Rejinagar seat fell vacant after Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir resigned following his victory from Nowda.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated Nandigram to retain the Bhabanipur seat, which he won in assembly elections held earlier this year.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the nominations, finalizing the party's roster for the upcoming assembly by-election contest.
Polling is scheduled for October 6, with results counted October 9; Adhikari defeated TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur earlier this year.
The party has said that Mohammad Abdullahi Khalifa will contest from the Rajnagar seat, while the Congress has fielded Milan Pradhan from the Nandigram seat.
