Business activity expands at fastest pace since 2021
Strong demand, AI investment and defense spending lifted new orders and hiring as input costs rose at the fastest pace since 2022, S&P Global said.
U.S. business activity surged to a five-year high this month as the Composite PMI climbed to 58.4, marking the strongest growth since early 2015.
Strong consumer spending, AI-fueled business investment, and defense outlays bolstered businesses this year as manufacturing and services sectors helped the economy shrug off global inflation pressures.
Data released in Sept. shows Manufacturing index jumped to 57.0 while Services PMI climbed to 58.7, with Employment surging at the fastest rate in over four years.
