- "To us, that day was important to us because we had worked so hard in our reading and learning skills," Natalia Jones-Pinkney said, while classmate Lazaro Dubrocq added, "We took our seats, and from then on, the day proceeded as history goes."
- The class and their former teacher share a special bond 25 years later; Jones-Pinkney pursued elementary education and her son now attends Emma E. Booker Elementary, the school where she became part of history.
