It’s been three years since Ibrahim Traoré seized power in Burkina Faso through a coup d’état. He justified his takeover by claiming previous leaders had failed to protect the country from jihadist violence and promised to restore security within months. But on the ground, little has changed.
Three years ago, on 30 September 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power in Burkina Faso after a coup d'état, a coup which he justified by the inability of the authorities in place at the time to restore security to the jihadist groups. As soon as he came to power, he had promised to settle the situation in a few months. Three years later, the terrorist attacks continued.
