Parents Beware: Popular Stuffed Bears Recalled over Choking Hazard
The recall covers about 36,000 bears in the United States and 520 in Canada after reports the zipper slider could detach.
Yesterday, Build-A-Bear Workshop announced a voluntary recall of Heartwarming Hugs bears due to a zipper slider on the product's side pouch that can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall impacts about 36,000 units sold in the United States and 520 in Canada. Owners can identify the affected bear by checking for model number 034464 on the label sewn into the leg.
Containing 2.5 pounds of ceramic beads meant for heating or cooling comfort, the plush bear has a heart-shaped side pouch. While no injuries occurred in the United States, one report from the United Kingdom documented the zipper slider detaching during use.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled item and return it to a Build-A-Bear Workshop store for a refund or gift card. Those unable to visit a store can contact the company to receive a free return shipping label.
Build-A-Bear is available via email at ProductHotline or by phone for customer support regarding the recall. The Heartwarming Hugs bears sold for about $48 between January and March 2026.
