Bucs Exercise 5th-Year Option on DT Calijah Kancey
Kancey is under contract through 2027 and will receive about $14.5 million in guaranteed money for that season, OverTheCap.com said.
On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially exercised the fifth-year option for defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, securing his contract through the 2027 season.
Since entering the league in 2023, Kancey has missed 23 of 51 possible regular-season games due to injuries, though he has recorded 11.5 sacks across 29 career games when available.
The option guarantees Kancey approximately $14.5 million for 2027, increasing his salary cap hit from 1.53% to 4.48% for the upcoming campaign.
Kancey is expected to help guide first-round draft pick Rueben Bain Jr. this year, stepping into a leadership role following the retirement of 14-year veteran Lavonte David.
Maintaining health remains the priority for the defensive lineman, as availability will determine whether the investment proves worthwhile through the 2027 season.
