Marathon Brothers Run Ireland in Race to Find Dementia Cure
The brothers have raised more than £400,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK and are targeting £1 million as they race against a 99.9% risk of dementia.
On Monday, Redditch brothers Jordan Adams and Cian Adams began a 32-marathon challenge across Ireland's 32 counties, finishing in Dublin on May 28. The pair started in County Antrim just after completing the London Marathon, where Jordan carried a 25kg fridge.
Both brothers carry a rare gene mutation giving them a 99.9% chance of developing Frontal Temporal Dementia, the same condition that claimed their mother, Geraldine, at age 52 in 2016.
Through their FTD Brothers Foundation, the siblings aim to raise £1 million, with 50% of proceeds supporting the Alzheimer Society of Ireland to fund dementia research.
Starting in County Antrim, the brothers traverse all 32 Irish counties before reaching Dublin on May 28; runner Sean McFadden and dozens of locals joined them in solidarity.
With only an estimated 15 or 20 healthy summers remaining, the brothers are running to bring hope to families living with dementia and make a real difference in the time they have left.
