Brooklyn Center Police Raid 2 Hotels in Human Trafficking, Gun Investigation, 23 Arrested

Officers seized seven guns and nearly $9,000 in cash as investigators linked the hotels to more than 2,000 police calls.

  • On Wednesday, Brooklyn Center police arrested 23 people during a coordinated raid at four hotels, executing 31 court-authorized search warrants targeting suspected human trafficking, narcotics distribution, and firearms offenses.
  • The Travelodge and Super 8 hotels on James Circle were identified as high-crime locations, generating more than 2,000 police calls between January 2025 and late August, accounting for about 24% of all reported overdoses in Brooklyn Center.
  • Law enforcement recovered seven firearms, 1.5 lbs of drugs, and around $9,000 in cash. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Garett Flesland said, "I've never been a part of an investigation this complex, this large."
  • Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt emphasized that the coordinated response included social services and housing resources to support victims. "These cases are about more than arresting people who are suspected of causing harm," Witt said.
  • Investigators are submitting cases to a variety of prosecuting attorneys, with charging decisions expected in a matter of days. The Travelodge and Super 8 hotels are owned and operated by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
