Judge Terminates Harassment Prevention Order Against Brockton Mayor
The judge said the alleged contact was unprofessional but did not meet the legal standard for extending the order, while urging no further contact.
On Monday, a Hingham District Court judge declined to extend a harassment prevention order against Brockton Mayor Moises Rodrigues, ruling the alleged conduct did not meet criteria for a sex-related offense extension.
The order stemmed from a May 22 Huntington Day Parade incident where a 17-year-old Brockton High School student alleged Rodrigues grabbed her waist and pulled her closer while she performed with the marching band.
Band director Andrew Santucchio testified he witnessed the mayor in close proximity and described the contact as "inappropriate," while the student stated the encounter triggered memories of a "past situation where I felt my space was violated."
Rodrigues testified he "felt awful" after learning of the student's discomfort, yet Judge Scott Peterson discouraged further contact, describing the incident as "unwelcome, offensive, and certainly unprofessional" while dismissing the order.
State Police are currently investigating a formal complaint filed with Brockton Public Schools, as GBH News reported last week that a second family has come forward with similar allegations against the mayor.
