Deez Restaurant in Qualicum Beach to Close Doors After 25 Years
Owner Mike Rosetti said remote work, rising costs and five break-ins made the longtime downtown restaurant impossible to sustain.
After two decades in business, Broadway Pizza & Grill in downtown Long Beach permanently closed on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, leaving four vacant storefronts on Broadway near Pine Avenue.
Owner Mike Rosetti cited rising costs and declining office workers as primary factors, while five break-ins over his final 18 months made it difficult to justify remaining open.
Austin Metoyer, CEO of The Downtown Long Beach Alliance, called the restaurant "a longtime fixture," while the chain Dirty Birds is preparing to move into the adjacent space.
Downtown's commercial vacancy rate recently hit 35.3%, exceeding rates in Irvine, El Segundo, and Los Angeles, as local groups work to pivot from office reliance toward event-driven entertainment.
The Port is attempting to bolster the local economy by filling a 13-story office tower on Ocean Boulevard, while the city utilizes new infrastructure like a shorefront amphitheater to attract visitors.
