Bridgewater team makes LLWS debut against New Jersey
Bridgewater is making its first World Series appearance after beating Gray, Maine, 8-0 in the regional final, coach Tim Zackrison said.
On Wednesday, Bridgewater, Massachusetts, lost their Little League World Series debut 2-1 to Bayonne, New Jersey, after Mason Rincon hit a walk-off home run at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Making their first-ever tournament appearance in the program's 74-year history, Bridgewater reached Williamsport after defeating Maine 8-0 in the regional championship last week.
Bridgewater pitcher Dominik Mombeleur struck out eight batters despite control issues, while Anthony Sullivan homered to tie the game 1-1, the first Massachusetts home run at the tournament in 13 years.
The defeat moves the New England champions into the loser's bracket, where they face either Hamilton, Ohio, or Henderson, Nevada, in a win-or-go-home game Saturday at 3 p.m.
Bridgewater's run has rekindled memories for Braintree American coaches and players who competed last summer, with Braintree assistant coach P.J. Kippenhan saying, "It's a nostalgic feeling to see another team close-by go to Williamsport.
