Report: Brewers Trading Collins, Mears to Royals for LHP

The Brewers traded two players to acquire 26-year-old Ángel Zerpa, a left-handed reliever with a 63.7% ground-ball rate and three years of team control remaining.

  • On Dec. 13, 2025 the Milwaukee Brewers traded outfielder Isaac Collins and right-handed reliever Nick Mears to the Kansas City Royals for left-handed reliever Angel Zerpa, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported.
  • Two days after signing free agent Akil Baddoo, Milwaukee Brewers dealt from a recently-replenished outfield group including Sal Frelick, Jackson Chourio, and Garrett Mitchell to acquire bullpen help.
  • Angel Zerpa carried a 63.7% ground-ball rate last year, placing him in the 99th percentile, and logged 58 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings with a 4.18 ERA and 3.86 FIP.
  • Milwaukee gave up two contributors to its 97-win season, with Collins and Mears, as Zerpa slots into the bullpen alongside Uribe, Megill, and Koenig.
  • Milwaukee Brewers project a step back from Isaac Collins and Nick Mears in 2026 while betting Angel Zerpa's upper-90s sinker and three years of control will add bullpen value.
