- On Thursday, the Nigeria Police Force invited social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, to substantiate allegations that officers at highway checkpoints facilitate kidnapping by relaying traveler information to criminal groups.
- During a panel at the Nigerian Bar Association conference on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Otse alleged that checkpoint officers identify wealthy travelers and relay their identities and movements to kidnappers, enabling abductions for ransom.
- Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu rejected the accusations on Thursday as "unsubstantiated," describing them as a "blanket" generalization that ignores hundreds of officers working under difficult, underfunded, and dangerous conditions.
- In a video posted on Facebook on Thursday, Otse said "I stand by my word" and declared he is prepared to appear before police but will present evidence only in court if formally charged.
- Otse also accused the military, immigration, and customs of benefiting from insecurity, while the NPF warned that circulating unverified allegations could undermine public trust and threaten national security.
