Joint Army, DSS, Amotekun Operation Kills Another ISWAP Leader, Abdussamad Ohida

Security sources said the ISWAP leader was planning attacks on civilians and the 2027 elections before troops and DSS personnel killed him.

  • Over the weekend, a combined operation by the Nigerian Army, DSS, and Western Nigeria Security Network killed senior Islamic State West Africa Province leader Abdussamad Ohida in a forest hideout in Owo, Ondo State.
  • Ohida previously served as deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais, until Ikrimah's arrest in 2023 allowed Ohida to assume leadership of operations across North-Central and southern Nigeria.
  • Intelligence sources linked Ohida to the 31st December 2025 invasion of Ipele Divisional Police Station, the 2022 Suleja and Zuba Road checkpoint attack, and the 2022 Kuje Correctional Centre raid, alongside various other assaults.
  • The operation disrupts ISWAP's leadership structure, while interrogation of Abu Uwais revealed Ohida planned attacks on civilians during the upcoming Yuletide period to disrupt the 2027 general elections.
  • United Kingdom intelligence partners supported the operation, which security expert Zagazola Makama noted significantly weakens ISWAP's expansion efforts in Nigeria, following the earlier killing of ISIS leader Abu Bilal.
