Lurgan: Woman, 39, Charged over Police Station Attack

Police say the arrests follow a March car-bomb attempt that used a hijacked delivery vehicle and prompted a security alert.

  • On Wednesday, police arrested a teenage boy, a man, and a 39-year-old woman in Lurgan investigating an attempted car bomb attack on the police station in March.
  • The New IRA claimed responsibility for the incident on Monday March 30, when a delivery driver was hijacked in Kilwilkie and forced to drive a "crude but viable" device to the station.
  • Residents of about 100 homes were evacuated during the attack. Justice Minister Naomi Long condemned the "cowardly and widely condemned attack" as putting innocent lives at risk.
  • Both suspects were taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning. The teenage boy and man were arrested under the Terrorism Act; the woman faces charges of perverting the course of justice.
  • Searches remain ongoing in the Lurgan area. Detectives urge anyone with information to contact 101 quoting reference 1828, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which guarantees 100% anonymity.
