- With overnight index swaps implying a roughly 99 per cent probability of a September hike, Governor Ueda pointedly avoided pushing back against expectations for a rate increase on September 18.
- "We have raised our policy rate five times so far, so we need to carefully scrutinize how the cumulative impact of the moves could affect the economy," Ueda said, noting the price trend is very close to the BOJ's 2 per cent target.
- US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stepped up calls for policy action this week, while Ueda and Katayama sought to calm markets after Japan's benchmark 10-year bond yield hit 3 per cent on Tuesday.
