Body of Missing Downeast Lobsterman Recovered From the Water
Local fishermen alerted authorities after Thomas West’s lobster boat was seen running empty, and his body was recovered hours later, officials said.
On Wednesday morning, family members recovered the body of Thomas West, 63, from Dyer Bay near his 35-foot lobster boat, "Aces and Eights," moored off Merritt Road in Steuben.

Crews suspended search efforts at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday due to low visibility, but before operations restarted, family members discovered West's body and transferred it to a relative's fishing vessel.
Authorities confirmed West's body will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
In a statement Thursday, the Maine Lobstermen Association expressed condolences to the community of Steuben, stating, "The loss of a lobsterman is felt far beyond a single harbor.
