The body of a 'bright and loving' man was found in a lake near Snowdon
Police said the 20-year-old was found after a major search involving emergency services, mountain rescue volunteers and underwater specialists.
- On Saturday, September 26, 2026, 20-year-old Mahammed Maim Islan from London died after getting into difficulty at Llyn Glaslyn in Eryri, Snowdonia.
- Police received reports shortly before 7pm that Saturday of a man in difficulty. Emergency services and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team initiated an immediate search of the lake.
- Search teams recovered Mahammed's body shortly before midday on Sunday. North Wales Police formally identified the 20-year-old following the recovery operation.
- Chief Inspector Steve Pawson of North Wales Police said he would "express my thanks to all emergency responders and mountain rescue volunteers who responded to this incident." The Coroner has been informed and enquiries are underway.
- Mahammed's family described him as a "bright and remarkable young man" with a promising future. They expressed heartbreak while thanking all involved in the search and recovery operation.
