Barisan to Part Ways with Unity Govt Once Parliament Is Dissolved, Says Ahmad Zahid
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN will stay in the unity government until Parliament is dissolved, citing a post-election agreement and separate state election contests.
On Sunday, Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the coalition will leave the unity government once Parliament is dissolved, stating "we will no longer be part of that government."
Barisan remains committed to the unity government until dissolution, fulfilling the agreement reached after the 15th General Election and the promise made to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Zahid emphasized that participation does not require abandoning political identity, as Barisan contested all 56 seats in Johor during recent state elections to uphold that principle.
"Barisan remains Barisan," Zahid stated, clarifying that national-level agreements do not prevent state-level competition, allowing the coalition to uphold its principles within the current administration.
Despite calls for early GE16, the coalition continues fulfilling its governance commitment, with Zambry noting the coalition's ongoing dedication to defending the unity government until the parliamentary term concludes.
