Blues turn Giant-killers as finals push gathers steam
Carlton moved to 5-0 under interim coach Josh Fraser as Sam Walsh and Patrick Cripps led a late surge that kept the Blues in finals contention.
On Saturday, Carlton secured a 23-point victory over GWS at Engie Stadium, defeating the Giants 12.16 to 9.11 to extend interim coach Josh Fraser's winning streak to five consecutive games.
Carlton's resurgence follows the departure of former coach Michael Voss after just one win from nine games, with players adopting a growth mindset focused on fundamental improvement rather than outcomes.
Midfielder Sam Walsh chipped in 34 possessions and a goal, while skipper Patrick Cripps recorded 33 disposals and seven clearances. Forward Francis Evans added three goals in the Blues' dominant display.
GWS coach Adam Kingsley expressed concern after back-to-back defeats dropped the Giants to 6-8, saying "If it keeps going for too much longer, that is going to wane a little."
Carlton now sits alongside GWS and St Kilda at 6-8, with only percentage keeping the Blues out of the wildcard places as they pursue a top-eight spot.
