Blue Jays Pitcher Max Scherzer to Seek Additional Medical Opinions on Forearm
Scherzer is consulting more doctors as the Blue Jays say the 41-year-old right-hander has not improved from forearm tendinitis.
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer is not progressing in his recovery from right forearm tendinitis and will seek additional medical opinions to address the stalled recovery.
"It's as confusing as anything I've ever had," Scherzer said, as diagnostic tests revealed no strains or inflammation, leaving the three-time Young Award winner without a clear course of action.
Signed to a $3 million, one-year contract, Scherzer holds a 1-3 record and 9.24 ERA across five starts, having failed to complete three innings in multiple outings before his April 27 injured-list placement.
With Scherzer and Jose Berrios sidelined, the Toronto Blue Jays are relying on Patrick Corbin, Eric Lauer, Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, and Trey Yesavage to anchor their rotation, with Berrios updates anticipated Friday.
Shane Bieber threw a bullpen session at Tropicana Field on Wednesday and is expected to progress to facing hitters soon, offering the team a potential boost amid ongoing pitching injuries.
