- Miguez brings nearly $3.6 million from his Senate campaign, and his campaign reported a $2 million loan and $304,850 raised after the announcement.
- Multiple Republicans have already joined the 5th District contest, including State Sen. Rick Edmonds, R-Baton Rouge, State Rep. Dixon McMakin, Misti Cordell and Larry Davis, while Miguez's residency in Erath outside the district drew scrutiny despite aides saying he maintained a district residence since 1999.
- With deadlines approaching, Miguez's seven-month Senate run may alter the race after the Feb. 11–Feb. 13 qualifying period ahead of the May 16 primary.
