BlackBerry Lifts Annual Revenue Forecast on Strength in Automotive Software Business
- On Thursday, BlackBerry Ltd. reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $163.3 million, beating analyst estimates of $145.6 million, with profit reaching $33.9 million for the period ended August 31.
- Revenue at the QNX division rose 27 per cent to $80.3 million as automotive remains the company's core business, with software-defined vehicle architectures expanding the deployment of QNX software per vehicle.
- BlackBerry CEO John Giamatteo told Reuters, "We're supporting all the different domains of the car. That's one of the reasons why we're seeing some of the explosive growth." Automakers using QNX include Audi, General Motors, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz.
- Coretura, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, selected QNX for next-generation commercial vehicles in a deal adding more than $100 million to the royalty backlog, BlackBerry's largest QNX contract to date.
- BlackBerry raised its full-year 2027 revenue outlook to between $616 million and $636 million, up from prior guidance of $594 million to $621 million. Shares rose about 3 per cent in premarket trading following the announcement.
