BitGo Korea Becomes First New Korean Entity Established by a Global Digital Asset Company to Secure VASP Registration in South Korea
BitGo Korea will offer custody and transfer services after becoming the first newly established global digital asset entity approved under South Korea’s regime.
BitGo Korea secured VASP registration in South Korea on Thursday, becoming the first foreign digital asset company to achieve this status through direct registration rather than acquiring an existing entity.
The Korean venture secured investments from Hana Financial Group and SK Telecom, which hold stakes of 25 percent and 10 percent, respectively, to facilitate engagement with local regulators.
Korea Financial Intelligence Unit approval allows BitGo Korea to provide custody and transfer services, distinguishing its direct entry from competitors Binance and OKX that pursue acquisitions instead.
Chen Fang, Chief Executive Officer of BitGo Korea, stated the registration provides "the foundation to serve institutional clients in South Korea through a locally registered entity."
Digital assets are becoming part of global financial infrastructure, Mike Belshe, CEO and Co-founder of BitGo, noted; this milestone strengthens the company's ability to support institutions globally.
