StarkWare's Avihu Levy Mines Bitcoin's First Quantum Safe Transaction
On August 26, 2026, StarkWare product chief Avihu Levy pushed a transaction through Bitcoin block 964,199 using a hash-based signature instead of the elliptic-curve cryptography quantum computers are expected to eventually crack. It needed no fork and no protocol change, cost about $150 to $200 in GPU compute, and still leaves every existing bitcoin address exactly as exposed as before.
