- On Thursday, a birthday celebration in Jammu turned fatal when a dispute over cake smearing resulted in the death of Pawan Nair alias Sameer, police said on Friday.
- The incident began near Lower Roop Nagar during a cake-cutting ceremony when Nair smeared cake on the birthday boy Neeraj alias Anshu's face, sparking a heated exchange between them.
- Despite friends attempting to intervene and pacify the situation, Neeraj allegedly attacked Nair with a "khokhri," causing a grievous injury to his neck, according to police.
- Jammu Police apprehended Neeraj and his brother Rishu, placing them in custody at Police Station Janipur while registering a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
- The deceased's body was shifted to the Government Medical College Jammu mortuary for post-mortem examination as authorities continue recovering the weapon allegedly used in the offense.
