On Wednesday, Billy Porter confirmed he will not attend the 2026 Met Gala in New York City, stating he has not received an invitation since his 2019 appearance. The event takes place May 4.
Porter last attended the 2019 'Camp: Notes on Fashion' gala, arriving on a cushioned platform carried by six men while dressed as a golden phoenix. Director Ryan Murphy secured his only invitation that year.
Addressing his absence, the 56-year-old insisted he does not "require validation from the outside" and emphasized, "I don't go to places where I'm not welcome." Porter stated he has reached contentment regarding the snub.
