Bill limiting mainland campaign activity faces likely passage | Honolulu Star-Advertiser

The state House and Senate on Wednesday separately approved last-minute amendments to a bill that would require corporations and nonprofit organizations created on the mainland to follow the same campaign donation laws that Hawaii entities must follow.

Legislators Advance Bill To Limit Corporate Money In Hawaiʻi Elections

The legislation would make Hawaiʻi one of the first states to sidestep the Citizens United U.S. Supreme Court case that allows unlimited corporate spending in local elections.
