Major Drug Haul in Malappuram: 12.8 Kg of MDMA Seized, 3 Held in Coimbatore
Police said the haul was part of a wider trafficking network that moved MDMA through several states and targeted young buyers.
- On Friday, a police squad from Malappuram seized 12.8 kg of MDMA valued at more than ₹10 crore in Coimbatore, arresting three members of an interstate trafficking network. Malappuram District Police Chief Chaitra Teresa John confirmed it was one of the state's largest drug hauls.
- This arrest follows an investigation into a drug seizure at a Manjeri apartment a few weeks ago, where police recovered nearly 97 grams of MDMA. Interrogation of six suspects initially detained led investigators to this wider trafficking network.
- During interrogation, officers found the MDMA concealed inside the door panels of an Innova car. The drug was packed into multiple packets, each containing between 100 grams and 500 grams, intended for delivery across multiple locations.
- Investigators identified transit points in Coimbatore, Palani, and Kodaikanal, with the gang allegedly sourcing drugs from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The network allegedly smuggled supplies to distribute across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, targeting young people.
- With the three suspects remanded on Saturday, police are continuing efforts to trace additional network members and identify the primary MDMA source. Authorities confirmed they are examining potential international links as the investigation persists.
