Bhopal Court Extends Custody in Twisha Sharma Dowry Death Case
The CBI sought more time as it investigates alleged dowry harassment and Twisha Sharma’s suspicious death, while police also conducted a reconstruction exercise.
On Tuesday, the Bhopal Court extended the judicial custody of Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, until June 30 in connection with the alleged dowry harassment and death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma.
Twisha's family members alleged she was tormented by her in-laws, who were reportedly dissatisfied with the dowry paid during their December 9, 2025, marriage, accusing them of mental torture and domestic violence.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, recently conducting a reconstruction exercise at the Bhopal residence using a dummy to test the accused's claims.
Produced via video conferencing from Bhopal Central Jail, the accused appeared before the court as Advocate Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha's family, confirmed the 14-day custody extension.
Twisha's first postmortem report, conducted at AIIMS Bhopal on May 13, cited "antemortem hanging by ligature" and found multiple injuries on her body, while a second report remains pending.
During her court appearance in the Twisha death case, Giribala Singh claimed that in jail, she was being given newspapers with clipped news stories related to the Twisha case. She demanded the court provide her with the full newspaper and extend her time to meet with her lawyers.
