Bhagwant Mann meets President over RS MPs switching to BJP; seeks Right to Recall
Mann asked the president to revoke the MPs’ membership and backed a constitutional change for a right to recall.
On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to protest the recent defection of seven Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MPs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Following the April 24 defection of seven out of ten AAP Rajya Sabha MPs, the party's Upper House strength dropped to three after Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan officially accepted their merger with the BJP.
Accompanied by 90 AAP MLAs carrying placards reading "Punjab's traitors," Mann formally requested the President consider a constitutional amendment introducing a "Right to Recall" for representatives who betray the public mandate.
Separately, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha met President Murmu to allege the Punjab government is pursuing "vendetta politics" and misusing state machinery to target MPs who switched to the BJP.
The political standoff escalates the internal AAP crisis into a constitutional confrontation, with both sides seeking the President's intervention over party merger legitimacy and alleged harassment of defectors.
