Belgium reports about 3,000 excess deaths over summer due to heat
Sciensano said the deadliest stretch hit 2,035 excess deaths as prolonged heat and warm nights drove mortality above expected levels.

- Temperatures reached around 30°C for 10 consecutive days, including three days around 35°C, while Sciensano noted excess mortality also occurs among younger people.
- Two later heatwave periods saw lower excess mortality: 535 deaths from July 4 to 17 and 365 deaths from July 28 through August 16.
