Vernon RCMP Advise Caution After Reports of a Bear in the Pleasant Valley Neighbourhood
Police say the bear has not shown aggressive behavior, and residents are urged to report sightings to the Conservation Officer Service.
On Friday, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP warned residents after receiving several reports of a bear in the 2300 block of Pleasant Valley Road.
These reports follow a bear sighting in the Harwood area on Thursday, August 27, and the RCMP is urging residents to be bear aware.
Media relations officer Chris Terleski urged residents to "keep their distance, and not approach or try to interact" with the bear, noting it has not shown aggressive behaviour.
Though the Conservation Officer Service has been notified of the reports, police confirmed the animal's current location remains unknown to authorities.
Residents are encouraged to contact the COS at 1-877-952-7277 to report future bear sightings or conflicts and help track animal activity.
