B.C. Man Creates Local Election Quiz to Help Increase Voter Turnout in Kelowna
The 23-question tool uses council voting records and candidate statements to help residents compare positions before casting ballots.
Kelowna software developer Giuseppe Gaspari launched an online quiz to help residents identify candidates for the 2026 municipal election whose platforms align with their personal priorities.
Motivated by his child's birth this year, Gaspari developed the tool to help voters navigate the bureaucratic language of local municipal politics and reduce feelings of "helplessness."
The 23-question quiz uses a "full ledger" of around 90 contested council votes from the past four years and candidate interviews to match users with aligned candidates.
With advance voting opening Wednesday, Oct. 7, and the election set for Oct. 17, Gaspari hopes the tool will increase participation from Kelowna's 2022 rate of 30 per cent.
Gaspari emphasizes the project's nonpartisan commitment and encourages users to conduct further research, bridging the information gap between being a responsible voter and a random voter.
