B.C. Legislator Hong Chan Pleads Not Guilty in Alleged Intimate Partner Violence Case
His case will move directly to B.C. Supreme Court after his lawyer entered the plea and he chose a jury trial, prosecutors said.
Richmond Centre MLA Hon Chan pleaded not guilty on Thursday to charges of assault and uttering threats in a case involving alleged intimate partner violence.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service appointed a special prosecutor in June 2025 after alleged offences occurred in Richmond on Jan. 12, 2024.
Counsel for Chan entered the plea on Thursday, Aug. 27, in Richmond court, where he also elected to face a jury trial.
Chan waived his right to a preliminary inquiry, moving the matter directly to the British Columbia Supreme Court for further proceedings.
Removed from the Conservative Party caucus in March by interim leader Trevor Halford, Chan is scheduled to appear in Vancouver court on Sept. 16.
